NHAI initiates takeover of land to build Delhi stretch of Dwarka e-way

NHAI initiates takeover of land to build Delhi stretch of Dwarka e-way

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), on Thursday, started taking possession of land in a 1.25-km stretch between Delhi and Haryana where no public land was available.

In a major step towards starting the construction of the Delhi section of Dwarka Expressway, officially known as the Northern Peripheral Road (NPR), the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), on Thursday, started taking possession of land in a 1.25-km stretch between Delhi and Haryana where no public land was available.

The NHAI initiated takeover of 25 hectares, comprising three private farmhouses, necessary for construction of the 9.6-km Delhi stretch of the 27.6-km-long expressway.

“After the publication of Section 3(D) of the National Highway Act, the land belongs to the Central government. We started the process of taking over the three farmhouses, which would be completed by Friday evening,” said a senior NHAI official, who confirmed the development but preferred to remain anonymous as he not authorized to speak to the media.

The expressway, which is being built as a bypass of the NH8 that cuts through Gurugram, will connect Shiv Murti on Delhi Gurugram Expressway with Kherki Daula, also on the same highway, via Dwarka, Bijwasan and New Palam Vihar. The NPR will also pass through a number of new sectors in Gurugram.

The Dwarka Expressway, which was first conceived in 2006, is divided in four parts. The first stretch would be 5-km-long, from Shiv Murti to rail underbridge near Sector 21, Dwarka. The second stretcg would be 4.5-km-long, between rail underbridge and Delhi-Haryana border on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway. The third would be 10.2-km-long, starting from the border to rail overbridge in Basai. This stretch will pass through sectors 102, 103, 104, 105, 106, 109, 110, 111, 112, and 113 in Gurugram. The fourth stretch would start from the rail overbridge and end at the intersection of the Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) near Kherki Daula, covering 7.9km.

Prakhar Sahai, key member of the Dxp Welfare Association—a group of homebuyers along the sectors lining Dwarka Expressway—welcomed the development and called for work to start at the earliest. “This is a positive development and should be taken to conclusion,” he said.
