CM to inaugurate Rajiv Chowk, Signature Tower underpasses on Jan 20
Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar will inaugurate the much-awaited underpasses at the Rajiv Chowk and the Signature Tower on January 20.
The underpass at the Rajiv Chowk would be used for crossing the Delhigurgaon Expressway to and fro ■ on the Sohna Road.
Khattar will inaugurate the underpasses on January 20, when he is in Gurgaon to attend the first meeting of the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA).
The underpass at Rajiv Chowk would be used for commuters crossing the expressway to and fro on Sohna Road, while the Signature Tower underpass will bring relief to commuters heading from the Huda City Centre to the Atul Kataria Chowk.
The two underpasses, built by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for fast movement of traffic on the Delhi-gurgaon Expressway, will bring relief to commuters.
“Opening of the two underpasses would be a great gift in the new year for the city residents. It would make crossing the expressway easy for commuters,” state PWD minister and Badshahpur MLA Rao Narbir said.
Union minister of state and Gurgaon member of parliament Rao Inderjit Singh said, “We are thankful to the Union minister of road transport and highways, Nitin Gadkari, who announced the plan to decongest the expressway for Gurgaon residents during his first visit in 2014 after the BJP government came to power at the Centre.”
Four underpasses on the Delhi-gurgaon Expressway have been constructed by the NHAI, one each at the busiest junctions, namely Hero Honda Chowk, Rajiv Chowk, Signature Tower and Iffco Chowk. They are all complete and ready to be opened for traffic.
Two elevated flyovers at Iffco Chowk are also complete and ready to be opened for traffic.
In July, NHAI had opened the flyover at the Hero Honda Chowk. In August, the NHAI opened an underpass near Tau Devi Lal Stadium at Rajiv Chowk, and a flyover at the Maharana Pratap Chowk. In the in first week of November, NHAI opened elevated U-turn at Iffco Chowk.
NHAI chairman Deepak Kumar said, “The flyovers and underpass at Iffco Chowk would be inaugurated later.”
The NHAI began construction of the flyovers and underpasses in September 2016.
The official inauguration comes days after the traffic police opened the partially complete underpass at Signature Tower for five hours—from
1.30pm to 6.30pm— on December
27 to ease traffic at the junction.
